Farm History

SATTERFIELD HOMESTEAD

Located 3.5 miles north of HW 51 on Lone Star Rd. between Coweta and Wagoner, OK, the KSAT Farm is part of the original Satterfield Homestead. Established in 1941 by Willard “Buzz” Satterfield, the farm has been owned and operated by the Satterfield family ever since. Originally a dairy farm, but also specializing in wheat, corn and cotton production, we now specialize in quality Boer and Nubian goat production.

COUNTRY LIFE

The rural life centered around the two-room country school where county agents made their monthly visits to assist the farming community with the latest information on farming and rural living.

WORKING THE FARM

It was never too early to teach children the ways of the farm.

THE DAIRY

In 1955, the farm was updated from a Grade B dairy to a Grade A dairy operation with the construction of a new Grade A dairy barn which included milking machines, a wash room, and a milk cooler and the dairy herd was upgraded to registered Milking Shorthorns.

THE HARVEST

Harvest was a busy time on the farm and nothing could be left to chance. Extended families and neighbors were called upon to help.

Before the combine, we had the labor intensive threshing machine for harvesting the wheat. It was a multi-task operation that needed to be completed as quickly as possible. Wheat, along with cotton were the two main cash crops.
